Signs Your HVAC Systems Need To Be Serviced

Posted on

Your HVAC system in your home consists of your furnace, air conditioner, and ventilation systems. These systems are going to need to be serviced from time to time throughout their lifetime, but you need to pay attention to their signs and have them serviced when needed in order to prevent a complete breakdown of these systems in your home. A complete breakdown of these systems can be a disaster, especially when it's very hot or very cold outside. Paying attention to signs is going to be very helpful in preventing a major problem for you and these systems. Read on for some of the signs that your HVAC systems need to be serviced.

Furnace

Your furnace may be showing some signs of wear in that the furnace may not be heating your home as well as it once did. Your home may feel colder than it typically does, or the thermostat may not be reading the right temperature, or your furnace may be turning on but just the fan is running. It may also run constantly, without ever reaching temperature. Your furnace may make sounds that it never did before, or it could also be doing other things that may be out of the ordinary, such as it may have a foul odor, or it may not be turning on when it should. If it makes sounds when it turns on, like it doesn't want to run, or smells like it's burning or gives off a natural gas odor, you should call someone right away to have it checked.

Air Conditioner

If your air conditioning system doesn't appear to be running, or the fan is all that is running, it's a problem. If it's running constantly or over-cycling, it's also a sign of a problem and a potential breakdown may be on the horizon. If you notice that your air conditioner is constantly running, it could be that it isn't getting enough airflow to the system and isn't capable of cooling your home because of the lack of air. In this case, the coils or the fins of the condensing unit may need to be cleaned. If your air conditioner seems to not be running properly, call a professional to have it serviced so you don't have to go without cool air during the hot summer months.

Ventilation System

Your ventilation system may need to be serviced if you notice that your home has odors, your fans are not turning on throughout the day to circulate the air in your home, or you have a lot of dust in your home. Your ventilation system may need to be cleaned or the vents may need to be cleaned. This is something that should be done every couple of years in your home.

If you aren't sure when your HVAC systems need to be serviced, you need to pay attention to any signs of trouble. Talk to a professional HVAC company about your systems and if they need to be serviced.
